Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of violence experience and adult attachment insecurity on depression in the emergency nurses. Subjects were 120 nurses working in emergency rooms of university hospitals located in Seoul, Gyeonggido, and Chungcheongdo. Data were collected from 1 to 28 February 2022, using violence experience scale, Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-revised, and Beck Depression Inventory, The data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 26.0. The main results are as follows. 27.5% of the participants showed over the mild level of depression. There were significant correlations between attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance, sexual violence, physical threat, physical violence, and depression. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression, sexual violence experience, attachment anxiety, and subjective health status were found to be significant influencing factors on depression. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the work environment or interpersonal problems that aggravate attachment anxiety, and psychological intervention for attachment enhancement is needed. In addition, a policy is needed to provide administrative support to improve the health status of nurses, develop a coping manual against sexual violence and educate nurses, and make sexual violence prevention education mandatory for patients and their families.
